Lion Country Safari

While our two daughters and youngest grandson were visiting us, we decided to go on safari in West Palm Beach.  I had actually been to this park over 40 years ago. 

It looked much different then - but so did I!

We began our adventure by driving through 300 acres filled with animals.  The area was divided into seven areas:  Las Palmpas (South America), Gorongosa Preserve (north Africa), Ruaha National Park (Africa), Serengeti Plains (east Africa), Kalahari Bushveldt (southwest Africa), Hwange National Park (western Zimbabwe), and Gir Forest (India).  Doors and windows had to be closed and locked at all times and everything possible removed from the exterior of the vehicle - less for the animals to damage!

Our daughter, Dawn, was ready to take pictures.

Joshua was poised to spot the wildlife.  Here's just a very few of the many many animals we saw.

 

 

You may have noticed that there were no pictures of lions!  The lions were one animal that were behind a large enclosure of very tall chain link.  My camera kept wanting to focus on the chain link so - no pictures of lions.

Once we completed our safari, we were off to the Safari World Amusement Park where Joshua kept us on track with the park map.

Other animals were on exhibit here, including these pink flamingos - one of Joshua's favorites.

We spotted this well fed reptile too!

Joshua and Mom, Gayle, got to feed the birds.......

....... pet a baby alligator.......

........and take a boat ride around Monkey Island.

Then, it was time for a Flying Elephant ride with Auntie Dawn.

Of course, it's always fun to try and run your mother over with a car!

We had a great time at Lion Country Safari.  There were many more things to do here:  giraffe feeding, animal shows, more rides, and a children's petting zoo and water park.  We just didn't have the time to do them all!  Maybe next time.
